About Our Office
Who We Are
The Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) at UCF, established in 1989, protects and commercializes UCF researchers’ ideas. Our team combines expertise in science, business, and law, managing over 900 active intellectual property cases, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights. Each submitted Invention Disclosure is thoroughly evaluated, and a tailored intellectual property protection plan and commercialization strategy is created for eligible technologies. The same licensing professional, who specializes in a relevant scientific area, manages the technology throughout its life cycle—from disclosure to market.

What We Do
As part of the Office of Research and Commercialization, the Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) manages UCF’s intellectual property assets and supports the commercialization of discoveries made by UCF faculty, students, and staff. Our professionals work closely with inventors to protect and promote their discoveries for use in publications, presentations, and the marketplace. Invention disclosures can be submitted online or in person, after which we collaborate with inventors to review the discovery, explore potential applications, and assess feasibility, novelty, and market potential. We help identify industry partners to bring the technology to market, and once licensed, our team continues to monitor progress and manage the distribution of royalties to inventors, colleges, and departments to fund further research.
Why We Do It
We support UCF’s mission to be America’s Leading Partnership University® and to achieve international prominence in key programs of graduate study and research. Our faculty play a crucial role in this success, and we promote their research to benefit the university, the community, economic development, and to drive discovery and innovation. Licensing university technology offers significant benefits, including royalty payments to the inventor, their department, and college, while also strengthening industry relationships. These partnerships create opportunities for sponsored research and product development. Located at Research Park, the Office of Technology Transfer is surrounded by world-renowned innovators, positioning us perfectly to connect with companies seeking disruptive technologies
